Two numbers. One phone.
Your guide to dual SIM on iPhone and Google Pixel.
What two lines can do
A SIM connects a phone to a mobile plan. An eSIM is its digital version. Dual SIM means a supported phone can keep two lines available: a card and an eSIM, or two eSIMs.
Personal & business
Name the lines Personal and Work. Check the chosen line before calling or texting a customer.
Try a second network
Keep your usual number for calls. Use an approved Quad State trial line for data. Request a trial.
Prepare a number transfer
Keep the old service working while your new line is prepared. Switch after we confirm the transfer is complete.
Separate voice & data
Pick the line for each task. A second plan has its own service, allowance and bill.
When travelling, ask the provider about roaming and any extra charges before switching it on.
Check your phone first
iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and newer generally support an eSIM; iPhone 13 and newer can use two active eSIMs. Model and region affect the available combinations.
Pixel 3a and newer generally support a card plus eSIM. Pixel 7 and newer can use two active eSIMs when the carrier supports it. Some regional models differ, and many newer US models have no physical SIM slot.
To use different providers, the phone must be carrier-unlocked. On iPhone, check Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock for “No SIM restrictions”. For a locked iPhone or Pixel, ask the provider that locked it.
Having two-line support does not confirm network compatibility. Check your exact phone before ordering.
Set up two lines on iPhone
- Keep your current line installed. Connect to Wi-Fi and wait for the new line’s installation details.
- Open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM. Use the QR code or details supplied for your Quad State line.
- In Settings → Cellular, open each line. Switch it on and choose a clear Cellular Plan Label, such as Personal or Quad State.
- Choose Default Voice Line for ordinary calls and Cellular Data for internet use. Review any Messages and FaceTime choices shown during setup.
Menu names can show “Mobile Data” instead of “Cellular”. Follow the installation method supplied for your line; phone-to-phone transfer and other carrier setup methods may not be available for Quad State.
Set up two lines on Google Pixel
- Leave the current line in place and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM → Set up an eSIM. Follow the prompts with the supplied installation details.
- Return to SIMs. Open each line, confirm it is enabled and give it a recognisable name where offered.
- Under Your primary SIMs, choose the lines for Calls, Texts and Mobile data. “Ask every time” lets you choose for each call.
Other Android phones use different menus. Have the phone model ready if you need help with its settings.
Calls, messages & the number people see
The line you choose determines the number people see. On iPhone’s dial pad, tap the displayed line before calling to change it. A saved contact may remember the line you used previously; check its preferred line.
Before sending a message, check the line shown in the conversation or new-message screen. Messages and FaceTime can have their own number settings. On Pixel, use your Calls and Texts preferences, or choose a line when the phone offers it.
Two lines do not guarantee two simultaneous calls. Availability during another call depends on the model, Wi-Fi Calling, data settings and carrier support. Older Pixels may send the other line’s calls to voicemail; newer supported Pixels have additional options.
Before relying on a work or personal setup, test incoming calls to both numbers and send a message from each. “No Service” on the other line during a call can be temporary.
Choose data & avoid surprises
iPhone: choose the line in Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data. A Personal Hotspot uses the chosen data line. “Allow Cellular Data Switching” can use the calling line during a call; when off, data may pause if the call uses the other line.
Pixel: choose Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Mobile data. Depending on the model, “Data during calls” or “Automatic data switching” controls use of another line. This can use that line’s data plan.
For a trial, choose Quad State as the data line while testing. Keep your usual number for calls and texts. Switch back whenever you want, and check each provider’s usage separately.
Move your number when you are ready
- Keep the current account paid and active. Do not cancel it before the transfer finishes.
- Collect the current provider’s account number, transfer PIN and matching billing details.
- Have your Quad State SIM ready. We confirm the next step and timing with you.
- Use the old line while the request is pending. After completion is confirmed, select Quad State for calls, texts and data, then test them.
A temporary or trial number is separate. Installing an eSIM does not submit or complete a transfer, and the phone may need its default line changed afterwards.
If a line stops working
- Check that the intended line is switched on and selected for the call, message or data test.
- Try again after any current call ends. Check whether the problem affects one line or both.
- Note the message, phone model and line name, then call (833) 701-7823.
Do not erase an eSIM as a troubleshooting step. Switching a line off temporarily is different from deleting it, and neither cancels the provider’s billing. Ask us before replacing a Quad State profile.
Quick questions
Does dual SIM give me two numbers?
Two active lines normally have separate phone numbers. Choose which line makes a call or sends a text. Installing a second SIM does not move your existing number.
Can I keep my old number while trying Quad State?
Keep your current service active. An approved trial using a new number is separate from your old number. A number transfer is arranged separately; wait for confirmation before switching away from the old service.
Can both lines use mobile data at once?
Choose one default mobile-data line. Depending on your phone, settings and carrier, data may switch to the other line during a call. Each plan still has its own allowance and charges.
Will a second eSIM work on my phone?
We need to check your exact phone, carrier-lock status and eSIM support. Two-line capability alone does not confirm that a phone can use Quad State. Start with our phone check.
Does turning off a line cancel its plan?
Turning a line off in phone settings only stops the phone using it. Manage service and billing separately with that provider. Contact us before deleting a Quad State eSIM.
We check availability during signup. If your area is not open, you can request a notification.
