Frequently Asked Questions
You may have many questions about switching your service to Quad State Internet. What are the benefits of fiber Internet over other types that come over wirelessly or through television cables? Do we do phone service, and if so, can you keep your phone number? The great news is that we have local support here to help. Here are some commonly asked questions about our fiber Internet.
How long does it take to connect my home or business to your Internet?
If our fiber network passes your home or business, we can generally connect you within a few days, and in some instances, we can do so same day or next day. When you sign up, we'll call and find out which day works best for you and will schedule an installer. Installation normally takes a few hours, as we not only install fiber-optics into your home or business, but also work with you to make sure all your devices work before leaving.
I have a landline, can I keep my phone number and switch it to Quad State Internet?
Yes! We can install phone lines and service your home or business phone needs. You can keep your phone number, and we take care of the rest! We will need your most recent phone bill so we can move your number to our service.
Can Quad State Internet help me with my TV service as well?
Yes! While Quad State Internet does not operate a television network, we help customers choose a solution that works best for them, so they get all of the content they love and nothing they don't need. We help customers install and use TV streaming solutions such as Roku, Apple TV, and other services that cost a fraction of Cable TV.
Does Quad State Internet meter, throttle, or cap data service?
No, Quad State Internet does not meter, throttle, or cap data service. So long as you are not interfering with the ability for others to utilize the Internet, we allow your traffic to continue at full speed.
Can I use my own router with Quad State Internet?
Yes! We provide routers and wireless access points to customers, but you can also use your own equipment. We provide Static IPv4 and IPv6 for all that need it as well.
How is Quad State Internet better for gaming?
Quad State Internet offers low latency connectivity to the data centers where many game servers are located, meaning you will have super low ping and low latency when playing online. Since all our speeds are symmetrical, our service is also great for streaming.
I just want Internet and don't need TV or Phone, can I have a simple Internet connection and nothing more?
Yes! We can give you a simple Internet connection with no bells or whistles, and no required add ons. We also don't charge extra for bringing your own router.
I've heard another company in town is providing fiber-optic service, how is yours better?
While some other companies are attempting to utilize fiber-optics to provide service to users, many of them are simply using their cables as a "last-mile" to connect to homes, and then reselling other services that are "upstream" to them. Many of these providers don't actually operate their own network that they can ensure full quality control over, while Quad State Internet not only builds and extends its last mile, but also operates its own Internet backbone. This means when you buy Quad State Internet service, you are getting the fastest, most reliable connection, all locally owned and operated.
What is the fastest speed you offer?
We offer speeds of up to 100Gbps, and we can also deliver speeds of up to 400Gbps or more as well. However, we recommend 1Gbps for most homes and smaller businesses as many consumer devices can't utilize more than 1Gbps at a time. For example, 1Gbps service can stream over 40 televisions at once in 4K Ultra High Definition! For hospital systems, large manufacturing facilities, and others, we offer 10Gbps, 25Gbps, and 100Gbps as standard available plans, and even higher speeds upon request.
How is it that Quad State Internet is able to provide such superior customer support?
Quad State Internet operates an Enterprise network with a 24/7 monitored Network Operations Center. We monitor our network for quality and speed at all hours. If we see a problem with a customers connection, we are able to often times preemptively take corrective action, many times before the customer even realizes there was an issue. This means we have your back even after all the other service providers have gone home.
I see Quad State Internet excavating in the streets and running new wires on utility poles. This looks very expensive, but the plans are so cheap! How does Quad State Internet make money?
Quad State Internet powers data centers and other enterprises with unparalleled service even in the space of big data. So while an install may cost us upwards of $9,000, we subsidize this by reinvesting the revenue we make from serving large enterprises. This allows us to serve small businesses and homes with the same type of connectivity we provide to large conglomerates. As we expand our backbone, we are also able to serve more and more customers on that same infrastructure, allowing us to serve more and more customers.
How does Quad State Internet provide services in other states and even other countries?
Quad State Internet is directly interconnected with other fiber-optic backbones, and has the ability to connect to other fiber networks and extend and interconnect its network using existing fiber. This means we can connect data centers and enterprises to our network even if they are thousands of miles away. We maintain close relationships with other providers that utilize Quad State Internet for their own infrastructure, giving us the ability to connect anyone almost anywhere.
If I have an office in Tokyo and one in Paducah, how long would it take to establish direct connectivity?
If your Tokyo office is on-net with someone connected to our regional backbone, we can often times turn up direct connectivity in a matter of days without the use of a VPN.
How does connecting to Quad State Internet make our community a better place to live?
Quad State Internet is working to make our communities better places to live in. We are providing grants to local charities, and expanding our fiber-optic footprint as we connect customers in Metropolis and Paducah. We are committed to perpetual expansion of our system so that we can continue to serve those who have been passed over, so when you connect your home or business to our network, you're making an investment not only in your own home or business, but you're working to make our community a better place to live as well.
Do you bury your lines or hang them in the air?
The choice on whether we utilize overhead or underground fiber optics is depending on your neighborhood. When running fiber overhead we commonly utilize what is called All Dielectric Self Supporting (ADSS) fiber. This fiber is strong, is not electrically conductive, and is easy to repair. If you are in an overhead neighborhood and want your drop buried, we can generally do so for a nominal fee depending on your property.
How much is your service?
Our home service starts at $59/mo for 650Mbps! We charge a one time install fee of $99, and your service comes with a 24 month commitment. If you already have our fiber in your home, and would like to activate service, there is no install fee. If you would like a router, we can provide one for a $99 one time fee or a $10/mo surcharge. Our initial 24 month commitment allows us to keep prices low, as installs generally exceed our expenses in onboarding a customer.
How does Quad State Internet keep my privacy safe?
Quad State Internet does not record what sites you visit and does not retain information on the type of content you post online. We are committed to customer privacy and work to ensure you have the most secure and private connection. We do not block lawful content and will always advocate for the consumer.
